MENDOZA, Argentina - A female polar bear at a zoo has turned purple after she was given a special treatment for a dermatological problem.
The bear, named Pelusa, was given the treatment for a skin infection and had to be separated from her mate, Arturo.
"At the moment and for a few days longer Pelusa will look purple because we've applied an ointment as a treatment for skin problems," said veterinarian Julio Alvarez. "This has been used in the past and sometimes it's even used in human medicine."
After a few days Pelusa will go back to her normal cream color and rejoin Arturo in the main polar bear enclosure at Mendoza City Zoo, 700 miles west of the capital, Buenos Aires.
